THE CHILDBIRTH SERIES

THE CHILDBIRTH SERIES

description
This series is comprised of four sessions lasting 1.5 -2 hours long. They are designed with the whole pregnancy in mind to help expectant parents make informed choices that result in a happy, safe, and memorable birth.
Each of the following classes compound on the information from the first class. It is recommended to start taking classes at the beginning of the pregnancy, however, if you are later in the pregnancy, the last 3 sessions are encouraged.
The FIRST SESSION starts during the early second trimester- ideally after 18 weeks pregnant. Information discussed will focus on the changes that have occurred with the mother and the baby thus far. We will also review what to expect in the upcoming weeks, what tests your medical provider may have scheduled, and strategies for continuing a healthy lifestyle. 1.5 hours
Some topics include:
•Defining trimesters- you say “months”, they say “weeks”- does it matter?
•Office visits-typical routines & appointments- you want me back when?!
•Lab tests and ultrasounds- don’t worry, your body will generate more blood
•Cord Blood banking- do I really need it? HOT TOPIC!
•Physical & Lifestyle changes- dyes, nails, sunning and more!
•“Pthalates”- what? Come and found out what they are!
•Moms at risk- who and why?
•Nutrition and exercise- fish, cheese, wine, and what else? HOT TOPIC!
•When to call the doctor - your doctor knows best
•Questions and Answers
The SECOND SESSION is given at the end of the second trimester- ideally at 26 weeks pregnant. Much of the information reviewed will highlight the upcoming trimester. 2 hours
•Office visits- did you say “2 weeks?”
•Lab tests and ultrasounds- they are important
•Physical changes- veins, discharge and “ca-nkles”: does is get better?
•Lifestyle changes- can we have sex?
•Breastfeeding vs. Bottlefeeding- do I have a choice? HOT TOPIC!
•Planning for your Baby & Baby Shower- BPAs, bumpers, and pediatricians- How do I choose? HOT TOPIC
•Complications- preeclampsia, diabetes and preterm labor
•When to call the doctor - warning signs
•Questions and Answers
The THIRD SESSION is given towards the end of the third trimester. Essentially, this class gets the client and her coach ready for labor itself. 2 hours
Topics to be discussed include:
•Labor stages
•Lamaze Breathing
•Birth films
•Games and demonstrations
•Questions and Answers
The FOURTH SESSION is also given towards the end of the third trimester, one week after the Third Class. We do not recommend taking this session without the 3rd session. Things that will be reviewed and demonstrated include:
•“All about the Coach!”- segment just for the coach!
